Frequently asked questions

When should the text end with "thuan"?

Use "thuan" (meaning exactly, with no satang) when the amount has no satang, e.g. 500 baht is written "ha roi baht thuan". If there are satang, the text ends with the satang amount instead, e.g. "ha roi baht yi sip ha satang" (500 baht 25 satang).

When is "et" used?

Use "et" when the digit 1 is in the units place and there are other digits before it, e.g. 11 is "sip et", 101 is "nueng roi et", 1,000,001 is "nueng lan et". A lone digit 1 is read as "nueng".

What happens if I enter more than 2 decimal places?

Satang are rounded half up, e.g. 10.555 becomes 10.56 and 0.995 becomes 1.00 (nueng baht thuan, one baht exactly).

Are negative amounts or amounts in the trillions supported?

Yes. Negative amounts start with "lop" (minus), and numbers in the millions and above repeat the word "lan" (million), e.g. "nueng lan lan baht thuan" (one trillion baht exactly).
